I’m fairly certain Saint Urbain mentions that miracles where around before. So the church was around during the first scourge. Frankly from what you describe spells are bad so people probably shouldn’t use them.

Just occurred to me that Ludleth in ds3 is the dark souls version of the monumentals. The backstory is thematically identical and nearly everything in demons souls made its way into dark souls almost as if it's a pilot episode of a tv show. This reminded me that the monumentals come off as being stoic heroes but were largely responsible for the problems in the world, which they've since tried to solve out of guilt. Ludleth comes from a similarly advanced culture in terms of using souls and is the only one of the lords of cinder that accepts their responsibility but mostly out of guilt. I wish I had payed attention to actual history instead of this

Anybody else feel like Demon's Souls lore is relatively simple and easy to understand compared to Bloodborne and especially Dark Souls? I actually already knew like 20% of what he was saying in this video.

A great video as always. But I must say I realise that these most recent "all lore in one video - explained"-videos contain a lot of questions answered rather directly. Of course it is still fascinating, entertaining and easy to listen as always but i would find it easier without these questions that interrupt the fluentliness somehow.

Wish you could use your magic and explain the story in Demon’s Souls like you did with the “Bloodborne story explained”. That’s by far my most favorite video you’ve ever made! I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve listened to it. Booodborne has a special place in my heart. I’d really like to listen the story of Demon’s Souls in that exact way. What is/why videos are great don’t get me wrong but it explains mechanics more than the story itself

Honestly, this is a really superficial view of Demon's Souls' lore. For example, taking the prologue at face value and the '2nd Day' thing as gospel is incongruent with the evidence discovered through playing the game. We know that the prologue is mankind's naive/inaccurate belief and that the 'God' of Demon's Souls is actually the Old One from the Talisman of Beasts item description: "An old wooden amulet resembling the Old One. It can utilize both miracles and spells. The symbol of God was nothing more than the Image of the Old One." And also from Freke's dialogue: "Do not pay attention to them if they speak poorly of me and my magic. Prayer is for the foolish, quaint, and soon-to-be dead. And heaven forbid the day you find out what their so-called God really is…". Basically, the Old One is the source of Soul Arts, and using them awakens it (not some divine punishment from God). You can almost consider the use of Soul Arts to be akin to praying to the Old One. It's also no secret that Miyazaki draws a lot of inspiration from Lovecraft and there are a lot of parallels between the Old One and Azathoth; a slumbering elder god that rests atop the Black Throne who dreamed reality into existence and once awoken will devour it.

Been watching this channel ever since I was 12, my best friend bought me the Dark Souls: Prepare to die edition Box as a surprise for my birthday and we were completely engulfed in the theme and gameplay of it all. We took turns playing whenever we had difficulties or were burned out and we just enjoyed it. I was very curious about the Lore and I found this channel. I have a yearning for the strangeness that this game has but was lost in the growing focus of combat in later releases. I feel that some humanity was lost in later Souls games. Even in my beloved Dark Souls.

I might be in my own ship here but I feel like out of all the Souls games, the lore is the easiest to follow. Maybe individual lore or NPC specific, you need to hit the forums, but overarching Lore is pretty straight forward.

There's something about this man's voice that makes me see him like a disembodied voice that would follow you throughout your adventure and teach you the game mechanics and lore , or at least that's how i see it

It sort of makes sense that sorceries in this world are more akin to witchcraft than enlightenment. Sorceries are super OP compared to miracles. Sorcery also can keep us from truly advancing in experience because it's so easy to just stand back and shoot enemies. Well look at that, the Souls series even has ludo-lore.
