After a couple of years I picked this game back up and finished it again, but never understood the story well with the dlc, thanks for telling the whole story and explaining the world of Dark Souls to me. It’s really a sad and dark tale no matter how you end the game but that’s what I love about the whole series and the way you explained it was just outstanding so thank you once again and hopefully we will hear more about Elden Ring or have a Dark Souls 4 with the ps5 I don’t see why not and they sure are taking their sweet time with Elden Ring🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻

MANUS IS NOT THE PYGMY. I know this is old but Manus is not, nor has even been the pygmy. He lived far longer after the flames rose and became Manus AFTER DIGGING UP THE DARK SOUL. That last bit is probably the thing you people should listen to. Manus was human before and fell to the Abyss. He is the "Father" of the Abyss, or at least credited that way, but the Abyss and darkness are not the same thing and are not mutually exclusive. Not everyone who gives into darkness is turned into horrible abyss creatures. That is a curse. The dark soul is inherently part of the flame, regardless of its implications, meaning it cannot be the same as the Abyss, which claims to be the antithesis of the flame.

So if humanity didn't have the dark sign what would it become. In the beginning humans/pygmy were just the dark soul right and they weren't exactly evil. Would they become these powerful dark beings?

I had just happened to be watching Crest's video of Nito without his cloak or extra skeletons before watching this again. A fun speculation I've come up with is a strong link between Nito and the Judicator giants. Removing all the extra junk from him he definitely looks like a rotted Judicator, save his weird animal leg. Nito clearly dabbled in necromancy and the Judicators use a magic that seems to bind spirits to their will. The connection doesn't really go anywhere beyond that but I thought it was an interesting similarity. A funny thought, is that in DS1 Nito was in his weakest state when we fought him, so does that possibly mean in his good days he was summoning those orange spirits instead of skeletons?

I dont get the difference between a pygmy and a human. Are pygmies original humans that received their share of the Dark Soul from the first pygmy? Are regular humans their offspring with a share of the Dark Soul inherited by blood? So why is the age of fire different from the age of dark? DS1's intro states that fire brought light AND dark into being. Also the Dark Soul was found within fire. If the Dark Soul would be the last Soul to remain, it would still be part of the First Flame

It's pretty clearly established that time begins to break down when the first flame dies, So what if when you travel to the fight with Gael, Time has completely broken down and now all points of time exist at once. When you kill Gael and claim the dark soul you are also affecting the past and in doing so you unknowingly create a new race. Due to pygmies being the ancestors of humans your form is mistaken for that of a tall member of their race. As you go back to Ariandel to Give the painter the dark soul, rumors are started eons before then of a strange pygmy who claimed a fourth soul from the flame and created Humanity, The furtive Pygmy.

It’s kinda sad thinking that everything and everyone you’ve known in the soul series is dead or gone, Solaire, Siegward, Firelink Shrine, Anor Londo, Sif, etc. And to top it all off, it’s all because of us, the player. We practically killed everyone

except we didn't this is not some story were we are the clear vilain, the world itslef is falling appart because of a decaying fate imposed by a fearful god, the player as no responsability in the tragedy of this world ending in suffering and despair we didn't " killed everyone " we assited powerless to they'r end

Oh man! I love dark souls 3 so much and the lore draws me in to play the game again and again and VaatiVidya's videos made the whole experience all the more worth it.

I love how the final boss means almost nothing. That is, nothing to the gods, nothing to the world, nothing to the undead/ash. It only matters to the residents of the painting. So fitting that it really is all futile.

You know how when a light flickers, so would the shadow being cast because of the light? Maybe the flame flickering (growing weaker) not only spread the darkness more, it also made it more manic and powerful. As is a popularly believed, gwyn trying to change nature's course by prolonging the flame was the first sin spoken about in dark souls 2, and gwyns plan was meant to fail from the beginning, since nature always finds a way to get back on track. The unnatural prolonging of the flame and delaying the age of dark is the disease, and so, nature made it's own kind of antibody to fight the disease...the undead curse. Also side note: it would have been really cool to see what the world would really be like when a chosen undead or destined lord of cinder let's the age of dark begin, in one of the games. Like, in every game, you can choose to become a dark lord at the end. It would have been cool to see the world and consequences of that.

Something in DS3, I'm pretty sure Aldritch's Soul, references an Age of Sea/Water. Deep water is black from the view of those not submerged within, and often to those who are swallowed by it. Perhaps The Dark of the Abyss and the Dark of the Sea could not be differentiated and Gwyn was forced to persecute both. It could also be that Gwyn knew the essence of Humanity was toxic to his kind, as seen by the effectiveness of Occult Weapons against 'Divine' Beings in Dark Souls 1, and he knew that when Man discovered this that their insatiable depth of want would lead them to rebel.

The effects of the abyss were subjective, for humans it meant breaking the shackles put by the old gods and embracing their true nature, for the old gods it meant the end of their reign as well as their very way of life, the Gwyn knew what happens to those who belong to a bygone age and wished to prolong his age, the age of fire indefinitely for his descendants. I believe in this story no one is really wrong and everyone is bound by their nature. Would you not do anything to save your kin from a life of slavery and pain.

Ugh, the more I dig in to post-DS1 lore the more convinced I am that there is no justification for sequels besides selling more games. DS1 is a perfectly contained story, its whole plot never meant to be explained.

Honestly I feel like I actually understand so much of the story through this dlc. The dark sign, Gwyn, the literal name of the game “dark souls.” The main struggle of the games is interesting because we are shown and told that darkness is bad, and light is good, but we eventually learn that human nature is inherently dark, and that really, light had screwed over darkness many times over. We are shown things from both sides of the argument and in the end, it’s not really possible to determine who, in the end, was really right.

Ringed City was RUINED by the stupid angel attacks, the city stairs FILLED with fat fucks who kill you in 2 hits and the ringed city knights....the speed, attack types and picky parry times are not SOULS, not 100% anyway...but as for theme...this was the best dark souls dlc since dark souls 1.
