I always considered the chaos flame to be a flame of survival , it mutates and warps to create new beings and due to its chaotic nature it can be more evil than good. It almost creates being that can survive in the world of the dark, which would make for an interesting souls game, dark vrs chaos flame. The dark is more subtle, more stoic it simply wants to be. Like a introverted dark side of the force, it dose not seek agitation and terror to empower itself it seeks sublime serenity and will use anything it can to attain it. I would NOT call the profane flame evil, it feels like more of a sub variation of what The witch of Izalith was trying to do, to create a endless flame, but its not directly linked to chaos but rather "fell from the sky" which could be it being made by the gods or a fallen god.

(sorry if someone said this already) I see the Bounding Demons - That Which Fails to Become - not as failures of Dragons, but failures of Demons. We see often in the lore, especially through Hawkshaw's interpretations, characters trying to utilize *parts* of dragons in various ways following the Lords' uprising. Seath wanted to harvest their scales in search of their secrets to immortality, we use them to reinforce dragon weapons, someone placed the Undead Curse on Dragons, theres the whole Dragon Cult, etc etc. - I believe many dragon remnants, pieces, were also used by Izalith in the creation of Demons- to some varying degrees of success. We know Demons are a culmination of multiple forms of life - chimeras of sorts, born of Chaos. And we know Izalith got at least one wrong - Ceaseless- before she got them right, so why wouldn't she have a few other errors in her trials? I suspect she used readily available, and once very powerful, dragon parts as an obvious first/early step, but like with Seath, it turns out putting eternal dragon bits to use is not all that easy. I think the lava-filled entrance to Izalith by Centipede Demon was sort of her "dumping ground," or some kind of holding pen, for her failures - those which "Failed to Become" Demons, but did not die. We also know these are the lower halves of the Undead Dragons, and this might not be a simply reused asset. Undead Dragons often lack scales, perhaps carrying only 1 on their entire person, so however they came to be, they would likely be of no use to Seath, at least, so competition for such parts would be low. Perhaps they were what was left after the forces that be scavenged almost all of their scales. I also don't think she gave up on using Dragon parts in the creation of Demons - though I think she discovered she had to use them in a less heavy-handed, direct way. The Demon Spear for example always bugged me - it expressly states it's made from the bones of demons, but I could never shake the feeling that it looks more like a piece from the EXTERIOR of a dragon or drake. It might, in fact, be both - and dragon remnants could make up a certain percentage of many of the demons we meet.

This is just a hunch but given how deeply related the chaos and dark infusions are in DS3: Could it be that Izalith tried to create a flame for humanity?
3 måneder sidenSnowbound Whale
It might've been mentioned before, but if the Demon Firesage (and likely Asylum & Stray Demons) was a member of a group or order of firesages, and which held a significant amount of prestige among the citizens of Izalith post demon emergence, it'd make sense considering the demonic statues in the Demon Ruins and Izalith look like miniture versions of those same demons, as though made in their image. As to why Asylum and Stray aren't fiery, maybe they've just been too far removed from the chaos flame for too long? Stray has literally the same staff the Firesage uses, but deals magic damage instead, and they were described as being sages and priests, while the DS3 Izalith staff saying "the flame witches were at once both sorcerers and shamans". Hard definitions of magic and magic users are hard to pin down due to how much variation there is in fiction, but Shaman especially tends to have a strong relation to "channelling", or drawing upon outside forces and directing them. If this were a fair description of the firesages, it'd explain why the 2 in the asylum would lack any fire based abilities.

i mean no one ever really mentions that the fair lady took in the blightpuss voluntarily, and that queelag urged her not to, both requiring quite big thought imo and that the servant knew this without speaking their language, the fair lady speaks calmly despite her pain. i think a further insight about the parasitic nature, is that it can be symbiotic, you can become an egg barer and at the start its parasitic, but once useful (although in game not the best) you have control of the being which will help defend you

The caduceus that comprises the shape of the Izalith staff is interesting. These two serpents may represent the primordial serpents Kingseeker Framp and, Kaathe. The black witch's staff in Dks2 and Izalith staff in Dks3 are not permitted to cast pyromancies either.

Izalith, the Chaos Flame, and the demons themselves are by far the most fascinating part of the Souls world to me. I'm also deeply fascinated by the nature of the Dark, and of humanity, and how Fire is the true cause of all the problems we have with the Abyss, but. Something about Izalith, man. It draws me ever closer. Like how the Fire Sage was the first demon, BEFORE THE WITCH SOMEHOW

I think its a bit of a jump to say quelaana faked her death. I don't know too much about the lore, but in the cinematic, all of the daughters wore the same gold hemmed outfit. also theres the pyromancer we fight in front of the bed of chaos fight. did we ever confirm that was quelaana? like I said I dont know that much, but it doesn't seem that far fetched to say that it could be the dead body of one of the other sisters. up until now, I kinda just assumed it

So, the demons, a once chaotic race birthed by the witch, who helped greatly in the war, that - unlike the old humans - actually depended on flame as well, like the lords and 'lord-kind', if you will, gained control and became orderly, forming their own civilization. And then, Gwyn... hunted them and tried to elicit genocide? Between Izalith and the humans, it is becoming an increasingly terrible idea to help Gwyn, seeing as how he tends to treat his allies.

Quelaag, Quelaag's Sister, Quelana, Body in Ceaseless' arena, 1 outside BoC, 2 inside the BoC. Ceaseless was the youngest brother of the children of Chaos, and was born diseased, not a fully fledged demon, not a full human either (Orange Charred Ring references this) So no, I don't think it's true that Izalith's demons are desecrated humans, just diseased, considering that Ceaseless had puss-filled wounds, which progressed into demonic plague.

I don't see the Fire Sage described as first daemon being contradictory myself. Personally I see it as a distinction between the likes of Ceaseless, who was mutated, and the Fire Sage, as an actual, shall we say, 'purebred' daemon.

So everybody talked about how Anor Londo reappears in ds3 but nobody seems to talk about the demon ruins and all the izalith related stuff found there. Is there ever going to be an in-depth video on the demon ruins from ds3? Does it allready exist and I've overlooked it? There are a few questions I'd like to get answers to like: 'Are the demon ruins what is left of izalith?', 'Why are the ruins next to the Smouldering Lake?' 'Why is the ODK boss arena outside and not behind the demon ruins?' And lastly: Is there a reason for the lake-ruins area to be connected to the catacombs of carthus and if so why?

Never really noticed but in the scene with izalith holding the small flame with her daughters around her the surrounding fog seems to be closing in on them rather quickly. Perhaps the flame she was holding was becoming weak and losing its power and so they huddled around the small fire in an attempt to resist the darkness surrounding izalith and her daughters. Just a theory. Also to me it looks as if that may have been the very instance that she attempted to duplicate the flame so the they could protect or sustain their own power, not to kindle or help with gwyn's age of fire. Izalith and pyromancy has always been so fascinating for me specifically over other dark souls related things because we know so little yet there's so much that indicates some huge and awe aspiring events that are lost to time in dark souls.
År sidenLord logbert
Also some of her sisters sustained burns on their faces that are actually visible in dark souls 3. This scenario would be a perfect candidate considering their close proximity to each other and the fact that the attempt to duplicate the flame was an explosive release of chaos and fire uncontrollable even the the witches of izalith. I also noticed that when they all are huddled up around the flame. Only two or 3 of the sister's actually have their staves. Yet when they weaved the firestorms that destroyed the old land, they're staves were clearly visible and each witch had one of their own. Who knows maybe the two witches in the circle that he their stabes were effected much harder than the once without. Maybe the one's with the staves are in fact quelaag (spelling) and her sister the fair lady. Maybe maybe not but Interesting though nonetheless.
År sidenPF
The only thing I really dislike about this video is the use of the enemies as some sort of proof, come on, every one knows by now that this part of the game was unfinished and they just threw random stuff to fill the area.
År sidenV Masenkoh
If all this is true, then your character is but a sperm trying to impregnate a being. Looking at the layout and map/topography of the level, the witches represent eggs discarded and "deformed". It's a very diseased uterus, with some type of cancer... considering the spider woman stuck in the wall... maybe ovarian cysts? Either way, it's all really messed up. And to think, someone loved her so much, they still tried to impregnate the world and birth it into it's new age. So you, being the sperm, are successful if you beat it. And in doing so, you end up ending that existence. And that sets up the metaphor for the rest of the game. It's about how humans destroy what is really considered beautiful nature and the nature of things. Dark souls... humans... they suck. This world, in essence, has demonized women throughout lore and history. Even now, american government speaks on behalf of women's parts.

Years later, my mind is still having a workout differentiating between the first flame, chaos flame, regular fire and pyromancy fire. Don't get me started on regular soul, dark soul and a lord soul.
År sidenHenry Tims
A soul is the life essence of a creature. A Lord soul is a soul of immense power. The dark soul was a special and powerful lord soul that was divided among mankind as humanities. The dark soul has more power than all other lord souls. The first flame was like the Big Bang, it started the whole universe, adding life and death, thought and feeling to the world. Chaos flame is a wild and out of control echo of the first flame, one that distorts life rather than create anew. Fire is fire. Pyromancy is the art of channeling fire through a desire to control it, and an understanding that you cannot control it also.

A "seedbed of grotesque life" could also means that they give birth to grotesque life, Quelaag and the Fair Lady also can be what she mension, the two sister's have egg's, they are seedbed's, and also, they are two, meaning that Quelaag and the Fair Lady could be the two sister's who left they staves to contain Izalith, if the bed of chaos was three persons, there would be three bugs, but there is only one, meaning that Friede, Liliane and Yuria could be the other three sister's that was missing.

"Mother's ambitions were misguided, no doubt, but surely a thousand years of atonement is enough!" - Quelana asking you to kill her family If it really was her desperation and not her ambition, she probably would have said something more like "Mother's ambitions were misguided, no doubt, but facing the end of fire, she sought for desperate measures. Surely a thousand years of atonement is enough!" The actual lines bothered me back in the day, when we thought that Izalith recreated the first flame to replace the dying one, but if we assume her ambition, it makes sense

@Daniel shore he certainly left after his father linked the flame, he left a miracle on his father’s grave “as a parting gift.” If you climb to the top of Archdragon peak, you see the corpse of an ancient dragon. The way you refuse to respond to the obvious and fatal flaws with the "those specific robes must be Quelana's" interpretation is incredibly irritating. I get that you're emotionally attached to your idea, but refusing to even engage makes it difficult to take any of your ideas seriously. Counterpoint about the Witch’s name: it wasn’t an uncommon practice for the royalty to simply be referred to by the name of their kingdom, especially in Europe. In Hamlet, for example, King Claudius is often sometimes referred to as “King Denmark”, or sometimes simply “Denmark” or even “King Dane.”
