It’s been months since I watched this video and the art submission of Catarina by Nolan is still in my head, it was so impactful and so perfect, such a playful feel, so gorgeous! I honestly wish that this art had placed higher, the only piece that I still remember in amazing detail!

this was a treat to watch, i just sat there with a bigass smile on my face gawking at the majestic beauty of these places and their atmosphere.

These are all incredible. #1 should be canon. I would have swapped #6 and #2. Also, I feel like these point ratings are way off. (8:44 "perfectly executed" = Presentation: 6) (13:27 "wish there was a bit more effort put into presentation" = Presentation: 9)

Love how since the xanthous king jeremiah uses chaos pyromancy and is thus associated with izalith , ceaseless discharge subtly hints at this relation by being clothed in yellow cloth.

I like how in the picture the light, emanating from the sunlight parasite is set in front of walking Gwyn, the god of the Sun, indicating that this is just an illusion of true divine light. Love subtle details like this

I really wish there was a dark souls game that let you explore all these lands as they are in these illustrations. A souls game that takes place before everything went to shit would also be a unique approach for the series.

Catarina by Nolan it gave me this feeling that you wouldn’t find in dark souls which is sad, depressing, and gives of the vibe of pain but it matches what you would expect of Catarina because of the jolliness of its knights you find in the trilogy

I think having a panel of judges instead of one co judge would be a lot more effective. Some of the ratings on presentation and technical skill seemed borderline arbitrary.

Also there's a super heavy focus on storytelling. I believe its unfair for it to be called an art contest when a lot of the higher entries has written works to go with them. I almost see that as unfair considering how many amazing works used strictly visual storytelling.

I love that Catarina piece. It actually invoked a lot of emotion out of me with how strong the world-building is.

The shear volume of beautiful art made for this competition is astounding.

These all feel like really good dark souls concept art bland I love them all but in a weird way none of them really feel like dark souls... except for catarina

Number 6, 5 are my favorite but Number deserves Number one for as you read the story a d look at the artwork you follow it so well that even without reading the story, and "YOUR KNOWLEDGE" (Hopeing you know it as a fan would lol) of Dark Souls just tells you the story 6 It feels like that's set for a Dark Souls Game designers station to make it reality. Then 5 if you know of the Onion Knights it be humourous and even if you don't look at it just feels Welcoming and Wholesome. "Best part is the Knight who just Cuaght a Villian in a Lock hold and Drags him off the streets." But Number One OH MY GOSH that's just Amazing to see and visual the Story Lore of Dark souls that is just perfect

just going back to this video to admire some great artwork and take in Vaati's sexy voice, noticed how much a couple of the demons featured in the work depicting Izalith remind me of the Apostles in Berserk.

I'm finding this quite late, 5 months after to be precise and was a bit meh at the idea of a bunch of art. How mistaken I was, this was such a great watch, so many extraordinary pieces of artwork, so glad I rediscovered your channel Vaati really pleased to see you're still producing such great quality content.

I can _absolutely_ see why the Dawn and Dusk entry recieved first place, since it was pretty much an entire story, but my favorite was actually the Catarina entry. I _kinda_ get what you're saying when you say it's 'incomplete' (not your exact words but you did point out that there where missing details) but to go as far as to so that there was a 'lack of effort' seems really unfair to me. Isn't it just a stylistic choice? I like that kind of art style much better than the over detailed ones that are _so_ detailed I can't tell if they where made in a 3D engine or if they're actual drawings; those just end up looking strange to me and straining my eyes. Maybe it's because I wear glasses? They might look better to someone who has 20/20 vision? Anyway. Yeah, the Catarina one was my favorite.

An artbook regarding stuff like this would be amazing to be able to look back at these art pieces without having to constantly go through the video. But this is just my opinion as an collector of artbooks

This is actually one of my favorite videos ever. Not even in relation to the souls series, just in general.

Seeing these images makes me want FromSoftware to create a huge open world RPG perhaps set in times way before the events of DS1 before new Londo was flooded it would be amazing to explore all of the areas like Catarina etc.

Imagine if we got an open world dark souls game, imagine brute forcing your way through a massive ant hill to sell some larva for coins or chilling at a bar with some catarina knights after hunting a carthus sand worm in the desert, it makes me so sad this won't ever happen T^T

As a Izalith fan since the start, I fucking loved it.

2:50 The whole observatory scene seems like it'd fit right in with the state of things in the late age of fire, when industry's peak has been passed and the age of decay and abandonment looms large. The lived-in crab and ancient hollow seem also fitting. Post-edit: wow, that additional worldbuilding for the observatory pic is fantastic.
