One thing: Ariandel is the painter of the second (???), Ariamis the first right? I mean, you are in the Ariamis Painted World in the first, and Ariandel was the second one. And we know that Priscilla probably shagged someone and gave birth to a bloodline (or maybe just Aria). Maybe this Someone is Ariandel? It's a long shot, but we know that Priscilla is not Ariandel, and yet Aria talk about her mother. Maybe Ariandel made the Painted World and than he died and his wife (Priscilla) taught to Aria the art of painting worlds. Idk, I have to see a lot of stuff, but I'm in this direction. (sorry for the bad English)

How are Souls fan not angry? The Souls series ends with Age of Dark inevitably happening, and we never get to play it? Just three games of people trying to light a cigarette with a lighter running out of fluid.

I think Gael goes completely hollow in his 2nd phase as he realises that his quest is completed - his blood now has the dark soul and all that is left is for you, the player, to kill him and bring the blood to the painter. And as many other characters in the series - once their task is done they go hollow. Whether he planned specifically for us to come is another question but i would say 'no' as he's clearly surprised ('What, still here?') at this encounter.

Gael is the true hero, he stands for humanity

Unkindled gets sucked into the new painting somehow, it's a grey world of fog, lotta dragons around . . . some big ass trees . . . Unkindled trips and falls into a cave dies to gravity, bloodstain gets left behind, only souls in entire world, massive explosion ensues . . .

Such a bittersweet ending. The world ends, but somewhere a new beginning is painted.

I just started playing Dark Souls (ds3) but I skipped ds1 and ds2. There are times that I'm so frustrated with boss fights but what I like the most is the story.

I find it very sweet that the DLC is essentially a love letter to everyone who is a fan of the series. As it draws to a close we are presented with a narrative that mirrors how we feel/felt about this series. Some felt challenged by the brutality of the game and the desire to "git gud" spurring us ever forward and ever more enamored, others looked to the lore that was present but just vague enough to let our imaginations run wild with ideas about our favorite dystopian fantasy land. This game meant something dear to everyone involved, and I think the thought put into the metaphor of these DLC really reflects that meaning. Gael represents the player, our journey from the very beginning to the very end all the while adapting the skills of the bosses we felled and growing in number sometiimes getting so lost in our purpose that we still hold true to of conquering these games. While the painter represents the developers, who feel indebted to us the player in letting them create a world so beautiful, rich, but still infuriating. There are those of us who would prefer to stay in this "Age of Dark Souls" and they represented by the antagonistic but relatable characters of Friede and Shira. But the players and the developers both form a relationship that lets the world we currently exist in to be experienced to its fullest, while also creating a cold, dark, and very gentle world for us to explore next. I think thematically and metaphorically, this is where the story of Dark Souls ends and I think its a really beautiful one that makes me look forward to the next world that From Software is going to let us explore and get lost in. I know this is late by three years but this was my interpretation of it.

If there is a next souls game it shall be called "Ash".

Plot twist is that entire Dark Souls franchise happens in Paintings. I wouldn't be suprised if the original world was the one in Bloodborne, and paintings are manifestation of dreams. It's as if Pthumerians were seeking to escape curse into dream/painted world, they struck some sort of deal and survivors became dragons in static world. Until painting/dream was discovered by humans, who found power within the dream (souls) and were changed by that power. Eventually bringing the end to Pthumerians that escaped but taking on thier curse. In the end the power of souls they found runs out and dream/painting starts to return to it's original state - so they run into another layer when flame fades. To become like dragons - to live in clod and gentle place where everything is static. Until some external force breaks in from outside again and brings it's eventual downfall again. It could be that Bloodborne world was but another layer of this process itself. But it seems that eventually always comes a force from outside that breaks down the world order and consumes the world. Be it by fire or insight.

Man that boss must have been hard to kill. Especially because his using a curved greatsword that deals slash damage because Gael is resistant to that. Good job vaati!

Did anyone else catch the meaning that creating a world through a painting circumvented the fatal flaws of the Dark Souls universe? 1. No gods to sabotage "life" 2.Using a object to utilize the power of the Dark Soul to prevent the Dark from stirring/ madness that occurs when a person/being has it. "Humanity" 3. The painter/creator is "innocent" they have no grasp of Fire and Dark- they only see things from a empty void perspective. Cold and gentle existence. The way it was when dragons lived. 4. The talking corvian criticizes the outside world and the cycle of Fire saying that compared to them; they (people in the paintings) always do the right thing- embrace unexistence so that the next thing may come to pass.(It follows the thought that: When you are immortal, life becomes boring/stale, you have seen and done everything. Eventually you "rot" in your own immortality)

I love the way aria says "I cannot die, I have a world to paint" It's like she's sassing you, saying she ain't dying till she finishes that damn painting lol

What I thought would be a good souls game I'd love to play would be the game to end it all and tie it together either a way for the accursed undead to slip away from the curse of the dark sign or someway somehow break the curse ;break the cycle,and one last time consummate the fire and birth and everlasting age of light just an Idea I thought about

My first Dark Souls 3 Character was named "Oscar of Astora", so finishing the dlc with the first npc you interact with in Dark Souls 1 was a special moment for me.

Something crazy to think about: we see the absolutely insane power of the one who possesses the Dark Soul. Gael in terms of strength and durability is a tougher boss than both the Nameless King and the Soul of Cinder, the remnants of the old gods of Lordran. And yet, Primordial Man, the furtive pygmy, made an interesting choice. He didn't use the power of the Dark Soul for himself. He *shared* it. Not like Gwyn did with Seathe and the Four Kings. He shared it with all of humanity. He could've been the Dark Lord of humanity, but he chose not to. But why? Kaathe and the Sable Church seemed to believe that it was part of an elaborate plan to give rise to the one true Lord at the Age of Dark; but we all know that both Frampt, Kaathe, and their ilk are not to be trusted. Frampt lies to you outright, Gwyndolyn uses illusions and trickery to lead you on, Kaathe tries to manipulate you, Yuria encourages you to sacrifice loyal friends and murder allies to stake your claim... They're frankly evil people, even by Dark Souls standards. So what was the Pygmy's plan? I don't believe there ever *was* a plan. Maybe just a thought; an idea. That all the power in the world doesn't mean anything if the world is empty, and there's nobody to share it with. This idea also is reflected in the endings of the game: When you link the Fire, fulfilling Gwyn's desire, you're alone. When you betray the Fire keeper, you're alone. When you're the Lord of Hollows, you're alone. You have no friends: only subjects. Like Gwyn, you have sacrificed everything for your Age. But when you accept the Dark and return the world to its natural order, you're not alone. Sorry if it's a bit of a rambling comment on an old video about an even older game, but hey, I only started playing Dark Souls in 2019. To me, it's practically new.

The girl painted the beginning of Dark souls. A gray world with no light or dark no life or death the whole Dark souls series has been a cycle of the fire fading and being rekindle soon there will be fire in the painting and everything will just start over again the finding of the lord souls, Mantis, the curse will all be reminiscent of the waking world

So here's my question that I don't have an answer for: If waking Filionore transports us forward in time a long time then why has the fire not burned everything in the Painted World? Has it even burned much more than when we left?

I think the bonfires are largely linked to a time as well as a location, they are spatio-temporal anchor, that would allow you to go to the end of the world or the untended grave through bonefire then return to high wall of lothric, that could also be an explaination of why enemies respawn.

I like how you give us hope about having more of this game.

Instead of a Dark Souls 4, I would like to see a "Fire Souls" (admittedly it would need a better name). A game about the end of an age of dark as another age of fire is starting to return. A shoe on the other foot idea.

I think you missed a single beautiful detail in this georgeous video: When Gael sees his Blood, his Dark Soul, his Humanity(!) he finally stands up and fight like a human. In the first One-Third he´s more like an animal... I love this Cutscene by the way =D
