(Feel free to correct me or give me ur thoughts or point things out that I missed.)

Maybe ludleth was mistaken for Lothric and so he became a lord of cinder because he was forced?

I think Ludleths nightmare is why the other lords of Cinder don’t come back. Linking the fire is probably agony, so of course they don’t want to bear it again. I think that’s what makes Ludleth special. He knew it’s agony, but he returned and even had his legs cut off to stop him from fleeing his duty.

what if the unlit firelink was more dangerous because it's locked away and isolated in its age of dark, the things there are recovering from the hollowing and corruption that is the extended age of fire on the outside world. The gravetenders are more lively and stronger, there's more wildlife in the form of the giant crystal lizards and gundyr hasn't been corrupted by the pus of man like we see in the world lit by fire. Maybe the shrine is void of life because of the darkness, or maybe the knights aided a treacherous ludleth with a massacre on everyone inside the shrine, He could have used a lordvessel to transport him and his knights to the heart of the shrine where they laid waste to everyone, then he traveled to the kiln where a Soul of Cinder lay defeated by the princes and he reignited the flame. It'd explain why there are no dark knights past gundry, he killed any that tried to pass because they aren't allies.

I can't really picture Ludleth linking the fire after Prince Lothric refuses to, causing an age of dark, for the very simple reason that, if that were the case, Ludleth's throne would not even be in Firelink Shrine. I think this is the most extreme case of time being convoluted when the fire is going out, making Untended Graves not the past or the future, regardless of what Ludleth says. It's just one manifestation of a possible outcome, perhaps something that Oceiros somehow experimented, making him lose his mind and obsessing over raising the prince to link the fire and prevent that from happening. Also, if Lothric refused to link the flame, bringing about an age of dark, and then somebody linked it on his behalf, kicking off the age of fire we are currently playing on... how long was it? What happened in it? Because Lothric as a kingdom remains and it doesn't look like there has been any other king after Oceiros. I think it just doesn't make sense and it's not supposed to.

I love the ending on betrayal. Let it cycle end, let the fire fade let the cursed go. If you listening to fire keeper lines she said a line about "Dancing flame in a distance" Just Like how The first flame ignite in DS 1 intro, "The world before is grey before fire, ruled by dragons" When the times come The flame will ignite itself and new age of life will come again. And hope they won't do the same mistake as the first lords did do to the first flame.

In all honesty, Lothric and Lorian were just trying to defend themselves. Lothric was tortured through experimentation and Lorian was such a kind brother, that he partook in Lothric’s curse and chose to defend him. I just wish Dark Souls had a little diplomacy when it comes to npc’s instead of just bloodshed. Also the way Lothric clings onto Lorian is wholesome, little bro is being protected by big bro. Makes killing them all the more sadder.

Look at Lothrics design, he is a male fire keeper, which is a mutated oddity. Specifically Lorian's, since each hero has their own fire keeper. They are from the blood line of the white soul, Gwyn's soul, so they do not have the regenerative life restoring powers of the dark soul. His job is to bring his brother back to life, but this is done in a flawed and artificial fashion. This is why Lorian returns to life crippled and mute after his battle with the demon princes. But, Lorian never killed the demons soul, representing why they never linked the flame/ did their intended holy duty. Lorian's one job as a lord was to put his brother into a correct state to win that fight. Lorian accepts his borther's power, but does not complete his duty. This is perhaps because he is too crippled to win the fight. Now, Lorian waits with his brother acting as a protector for the failed incomplete experiment of a lord. Lothric himself is crippled because much like every other fire keeper, he inherits the broken states of his brothers soul every time he regenerates him, but since he is a flawed experiment, it does not work as intended.

The grand betrayal is attempting to replicate the dark souls power in a light soul.

I think Ludlith regrets relighting the first flame and feels guilt for prolonging the state of the world. He may have only known the consequence of his actions upon being brought back from the dead. I think him knowing of the Firekeeper's eyes speaks volumes. He may have heard the truth from her, but did not believe it as he was likely lied to in order to link the flame. Now he knows what he has done.

He knackered the entire universe and got away with it. Or was the Ringed City the ring he put around the Dark Soul that caused the curse in the first place? Hey lore seekers, I Just got a quick question concerning the lords of cinder. Did Aldrich, Yhorm, The Abyss watches, DLC lords, and all else who linked the flame battle the SoC as well? If they did shouldn't the Kiln be empty or at least them instead of the Soul of Cinders?? Something about the whole SoC lore I'm not understanding it seems... And when you link the flame... Don't you become Hollow or bound to the Kiln like Gwyn or the Chosen Undead and not resurrect to prancy all over the show at all? @Ray Yep, that's mostly it. When you link the first flame, the main part of your soul is used to feed the flame. A small part is used to reinforce the SoC and the remaining part of your soul is kept in the cemetery of ash to return as a lord of cinder if needed. I don't know why our character wake up in the cemetery of ash. My interpretation is that the cemetery of ash, as well as the firelink shrine, is linked to the first flame. So those who sacrificed themselves to the first flame end up there, as corpses or as ashes that are reformed in bodies when the bell tolls. And the shrine move toward the next sacrifice (here Lothric). The Gwyn we fought in DS1 was probably the first version of the SoC, which don't have any free will unlike lords of cinders and unkindled. He is not hollow. Only human can be hollow. (To be honest, I don't really understand the difference between hollows who have lost their souls and humanity and hollows who are true human and filled with humanity.)

Alright let me just confirm what I heard you say so I see if I understood it correctly... 1-Our character can't ever be a Lord of Cinder because of being unkindled and losing our soul to the flame at our first attempt to link it. 2- The SoC is generally like a ghost who IS and watches over the first flame and tests whoever wants to link it like Aldrich Yhorm etc and if depending on whether they're successful either a- Leave fragments of their soul/skillset within the flame (Lightning,pyro for example) b- Become unkindled if they fail and sent out again as an empty vessel to find more souls to level up and try to link the flame again. I still am unsure about this whole resurrection/reincarnation thing as our character first wakes up in the cemetery of ash and not the last bonfire before their first attempt to link the flame. Or how some of the Lords retained some "sanity" to return home and didn't fullon hollow like Gwyn but It's probably just one of those connect the dots thing or hidden mechanics Im guessing Does that about sum it up correctly guys

Yes, all the lords have defeated a version of the SoC, but since it just an emanation of the power of the first flame, SoC reappear each time someone come to link the fire. And a part of the souls of Aldrich, Yhorm... is effectively in the SoC we fight. Unkindled have lost their soul when they failed to link the fire. Our character is just a vessel used by the first flamme to obtain the strong soul of Lothric. If you link the fire, a part of Lothric's soul is added to the SoC while our character is just reduced in ash. Our character don't become a lord of cinder.

One observation I've yet to read is the absence of most of the thrones. Four of the Five Lords have "betrayed their station." But we all know nine times out of ten, the game lies to us. An Illusory Wall, if you will. The Lords left their stations because they know the truth of the flame. They've seen, in their own ages, the nature of the curse, and that the rekindling of the sick flame does resolve the world's problems. Why else would they fight so viciously to kill you when you come to lead them back to their "rightful place?" The thing that vexes me is how there is already a throne for the twin princes, even though they forsake the linking in their own time. My understanding is that the Shrine houses all who have already stoked the first flame. If the princes denied their throne from the beginning, what does it mean that a place for them is already reserved? Is it as Lord Vaati prescribes? Has the mythology of the Flame has become so beaten into the fabric of this existence that each world's reiteration expects a lord without question?

Just earlier today I beat the game for the first time & even though I chose to end the fire with the fire keeper, I don't think I ever saw that cutscene with Ludleth at 6:05. But I remember talking to him & him saying that he chose to be a lord of Cinder & that I should choose my own path. The fact the fire keeper was willing to choose against her own destiny meant I had to go through with it.
