I think Margareta is the guiding voice in the game - just a thought -, after all, she sounds protective of the children when you're in the hut with the evil faerie. Not sure why she drowned herself, but your theory of trying to become a faerie herself seems likely. The question is: where did she get a red ring of life? In any case, she must have realized that she was missing the other ring needed to travel back in time to alter the past - perhaps she realized it too late, or the ring fell in the river? Another thing to note, I think is the children's portraits on the board. Everyone's is very lifelike except for Maria's. She and Yuliya's motion capture are both named Anonymous. Not sure what to make of that, but Maria's portrait really puzzles me. I really wish to play Bloodborne, but from all the videos I've seen - not sure if I recall correctly - the Doll was based on a person. Could it have been Yuliya? She really reminds me of her, obviously. For being able to see/sense the fairy so well, Yuliya must have high enough insight. :) One more thing: it may be somewhat or moreso irrelevant, but some of the children's names seem to be Hungarian, mixed with names from other countries. Lorinc (Lőrinc), Rozsa (Rózsa) seem to be the obvious ones, but it's also possible that Margareta (Margaréta), too, hails from such a name heritage. Despite this, none of these names are pronounced accordingly (just a side note). If you need any kind of help with the Hungarian language/pronunciations, feel free to contact me, I'd love to help!

Imagine a game set where you play as someone who was taken by the fairies and you wander through the fairy realm on a quest for revenge sort of god of war style, destabilizing nature by killing the fairies. On one hand they are verifiably malevolent but on the other hand their existence as necessary to maintain the balance of nature. Leading to a confrontation where you finally kill or spare the king and queen of the fairies themselves titania and Oberon. Depending on which lore you prefer I suppose. Something in the vein of bloodborne but with a bit less sci-fi and may be a bit more... "political morality"? Like you as the invader in this world. Is it really your choice to go destroying such an ancient part of nature just because it killed you?

Imagine a soulsborne game but using fae lore instead. I am imagining a completely tame game about wandering the wilderness and just beating up regular animals and then occasionally you are besieged by a verifiably supernatural force and during those segments the combat completely changes. Using wards and charms to repel what you can't possibly hope to kill.

Um, cool story and all, but Rosza got the walking stick after seeing the red glow outside and didn't you stop that evil faerie from appearing by not taking Yulia's time? So why has she got the stick still in the final cutscene or are we just assuming that that still happened and you didn't end up taking the red ring from the corpse to stop Margareta from becoming an evil faerie? But it's ok, you stopped the kids from going outside...

Great video. I have a theory about the corpse of Margarita and to how she has a life ring. I think that maybe she summoned the ghost of the toddler - Alexa with the golden wand, to turn her into a fairy. I think maybe Alexis took Margarita's remaining time, but - then why does Margarita still have the ring? I think that Alexis didn't want to see her mother die and so put the life ring back on her finger and bought her back to life (like you do with the good ending - bringing Yuliya back to life again.) Then Margarita, despondent with losing Alexis and her not even becoming a fairy as she wished, drowned herself in the river of prayer, before being washed up on the pier. I know this is before the original start of the game, which would imply that Alexis had been summoned before by Margerita, then faded into nothing, only to be summoned later by Yuliya. The fact that the first time you can't see the children in bed, and only the bumps in the sheets where they lie, is because at that point Alexis is a mere spirit, a ghost, and only as a fairy can she see humans. Of course this wouldn't explain why Yuliya can see the other children as a ghost...perhaps that is just thinking too deep

Couldn’t Fairy Alexes go to the Lake and get her mother’s red ring in order to survive?

5 måneder siden
leemoz1

I think the reason you can't see the children in their beds the first time you play, is that at that point you are the spirit, ghost of Alexis, and you are becoming the fairy for the first time after being summoned by Yuliya. Then, the second time, or subsequent times you go back to this point, you are already the fairy, and you can then see the children, and interact with them.

This has been one of the most captivating and inspiring stories I've heard so far. I really wish the game gets a lot of attention it deserves. What really got me was the scene of Alexis' gift to Yulya as the gift of time, but what was really great was that said gift had been rightfully Yulya's own time and it was more of an eye-opener and realization the importance of her time and her promise to never waste it. That really touched me and I'm glad to have watched this video to know about the game

The doll posing itself, trying to make a contact with us, an entity of time and life, is already intriguing enough, but the moment I saw the doll shift it’s arms, I felt absolutely surprised and wholeheartedly entertained. Is this what the Great Old Ones feels when we shift our arms while trying to make a contact with them ?

Loved the video. I am quite late to this discussion. I wanted to finish the game first before watching your video. I loved the game and I don't think the mechanics people wanted to see more of would really benefit the narrative as it would probably make the gameplay inconsistent (adding late combat or stealth) or add story problems to an already complex kind of story (time travel) which can become full of paradoxes. This is a pretty straightforward point and click (if you would) puzzle game with a heavy focus on narrative, and as a visual novel fan I don't mind this kind of gameplay at all. With Derácine Miyazaki proved that he is also great at telling more direct stories despite some gamers claiming that you and other souls fans just make these stories up for him and that he is not a good storyteller (an argument I see often, sadly). I'm pretty sure Famitsu gave a high score to this game despite the simple gameplay precisely because it is a very popular gameplay style in Japan and so they focused on reviewing the story. Regarding how a fairy is born, I think the answer to your question is in your video. That line where it says "something else entirely" is born out of borrowed time. Yulia did not become a fairy after you gave her the ring because it was her own time. You, instead, became a fairy by borrowing Yulia's time. Only those living on borrowed time become fairies.

First off, this video was great for explaining the lore of a game that I almost definitely won't be playing. The story looks great, the voice acting good and very reminiscent of Victorian to around WWI era's type of speak, and the fact that their lips are actually moving is amazing in of itself for a Fromsoft game. Unfortunately, I can't give the video a like for the simple fact that I couldn't watch it through a single sitting. The constant jerky camera movements made attempting to watch it nauseating and I had to take a break four times before I could actually go through the entire video or I'd be spewing out chunks in the middle of it. It was a nice video and kudos to you for bringing to light this game for people who won't be playing it. But it was tough to get through.

my only question is what hurt Rosetta's leg? She has her cane in that final scene so her accident did happen in that timeline. It's hard to say it's the evil faerie as it didn't take her time. Her leg not healing could certainly be some sort of time manipulation on behalf of a faerie but what would be the purpose of doing such a thing? The red glow she was investigating certainly points to the ring and body of Margaret. So even at the end of this I'm still left with questions.
