A lot of people are calling me out for incorrectly saying that "Okami" means Dragon - but it does indeed reference a dragon in this case. I should have written the following note in the video: The character used to describe Sekiro is Okami written as 狼, which means wolf. However, in the Japanese description of Sabimaru, the word 淤加美 is used when referring to the Okami Clan. This is short for Okami no kami, or Kuraokami - a legendary Japanese dragon which is a Shinto deity of rain and snow. The English is often misleading.

Im playing through sekiro rn. And I was wondering if you could answer this. The dragon that isn't supposed to be there. Isn't it likely that he pushed out the snakes. And the remaining pledged to the dragon and the rest decented to the depths where them and the snakes were safe. Kinda like following there fallen god.

@12mjk21 No. It's a pun between 狼 (おおかみ , ookami) which means "wolf", and 大神 (おおかみ , oo-kami) which means "great god". That's the pun that the game Ōkami is making with its title. 神 (kami) means "god", and if you add the prefix "oo" to a word it means "great" or "big". This is not to be confused with お神 (o-kami) which is the word "god" + the honorific prefix "o". And this is again different from the Okami that is the name of the Shinto dragon Vaati mentioned. But in no case does "ookami" mean "ooh god", that's just nonsense.

If there is a sekiro 2 it should take place in “the old war”, maybe lady Tomoe would be there and creatures like whatever bird the mist raven attachment came from, or other people who suffer from shura. As well as more use of the fire god ability that isshin uses in his 2nd phase. A young guardian ape? (Because he was undying), more explanations for where the immortal centipedes came from? Hell, maybe even super early generations of the divine heir. So many possibilities, I would play the shit out of that

I noticed 2 things 1. in ashina are really 2 great serpents. The one that guards the dried serpent viscera is a different one that the one you kill. 2. You don't find the kingsfishers ring inside the belly if the ape but her finger The Ring is dropped by the Shichimen Warrior who is in the depths of Ashina Is there lore for that?

I think that, after going through the game again(with Path of Further Hardship active), and the game actually gives me the vibe that the sunken valley clan are a sort of “house keepers” or “gate keepers.” We never see them actually venture past their areas of the sunken valley except for an occasional cannon unit aside Ashina samurai squads. I get the feeling that they act like dogs without a master. They want to stay close to the area they call sacred, but not enter it themselves, which is a very guard dog like mentality. That would mean that the sunken valley clan are not necessarily true Okami, but sort of like a different species but same creature, similar to how humans had different species in the past.

I believe that the Sunken Valley clan were left behind, after all they are referred to as "descendants" of the Okami

"They may have learned about their weakness to poison"... Yes, they also learned about their weakness to sharp objects, being crushed by boars, and set on fire. Not like poison or any of those are "weaknesses" shared by all other humans and generally creatures? I get the point he's making, but I also see this from the light of... and so what? I mean... if they had one blade that could kill them, far more likely than that one blade itself truly being special, it would be the wielder of that blade that was special and could hunt and kill them. And the blade, by merit of being wielded by that person and killing so many, also became hated. All the more so if it had any adverse effects like toxin or poison making those simply injured still die later with those that tried to help them, but the key part was the person that wielded it, not the weapon itself that would have pushed them back. Think of it like Sekiro, he's got his own blade, and those of the Ashina he's killed will curse his blade, but more so they'd curse him. Over long time though, the blade will stay around as a relic while he's long dead so info on it may be come more prominent. After all, the Sabimaru didn't seem particularly effective against the ghosts we fought, so my guess is that overall we couldn't kill them because they could fight from afar as ghosts, but one key person went and managed to reach and attack the Okami and their main bodies and happened to wield Sabimaru. It's that person that I would really like to know more about, rather than their weapon.

They always talk about Buddah in Sekiro but what about the Kami gods? Shinto? Shinto is the japanese religion, Buddaism is kind of secondary.

The narrative of the arrival of new gods and old gods seems like a reference to outside cultural influences changing local beliefs. My go to example of this would be the snake and dragon. The dragon is a chinese styled dragon, while the snake resembles the descriptions of dragons before the cultural influence of china changed the way dragons were depicted in japan. Japanese dragons were traditionally just giant, rampaging snakes, so poisonous that the land around them would be poisoned (Maybe that's where the poison of the valley comes from?) and were savage monsters, a far cry from the weird quasi mammalian legged dragons that would be imported from china

The idea that the sword stuck in the Guardian Ape's neck belongs to the King Fisher/Sculpter's partner makes me wonder. Look at how large that thing is. It would have been very unpractical to have been wielded by a human, much less a shinobi.

what I am thinking about - Swordsaint Isshin is able to control the lightning too in our last boss fight. How is this possible? Does Isshin know all the secrets of the Ashina warriors AND of the Okami? He uses the Spear of Seven Spears and the gun of the Okami. Did he learn all those things? Or is it because Genichiro was his vessle? And how is this possible at all if he was ment to be dead, like Emma said. Did he become after his death an inhuman being inside of Genichiro? But he can´t control Genichiro because Genichiros moveset is the same - in the last bossfight and in the first one. He just has found the immortal blade in between. There are so many questions about the beautiful lore of the game - I finished it almost one week ago but still can´t get enough of it. I loved the last bossfightes with the Demon of Hatred and Isshin... this game is just a masterpiece in so many ways.

Thank you for putting all of this together! There are so many small cues to put together in this game....the epic Buddhists statues in sunken valley, the gun fort, dead monks in Senapou temple...its all so tough to connect when you're slamming your head against the wall after Lady Butterfly has killed you 50 times in a row lol - personally, I thought that the Sunken Valley warriors were allied with the Ashina clan since they man the watch towers by the old grave (and love taking pot shots at you with cannons that reload WAY to fast......I mean seriously, did those guys time travel to world war 2 and steal mortar cannons from the pacific theater???? Like wtf!!!)

13:20 Slight correction: you don't get the kingfisher's ring from the Guardian Ape, you get that from the Shichimen Warrior who appears after the second Guardian Ape fight (with his mate) in the Sunken Valley. Instead the Guardian Ape drops the Slender Finger.

I have already known that tomoe was an okami warrior woman but never knew she was the mentor of Genechiro , which explains why has lightning and god damn god-like bow accuracy , that's a beautiful bit of lore tied into the game mechanics , amazing game and even better video from your end . Edit : one question tho , according to Emma when you talk to her in the old grave , she enjoyed the sight of tomoe near the sakura tree , which means both Emma and tomoe met each other , and so did Emma ever meet takeru ? And why does she not remember tomoe's quest to end takeru's blood heritage ?
